Tyrella House, Downpatrick, Co. Down
This site was chosen under PPS21 criteria where an existing farm grouping was replaced to provide a new dwelling and garages for a member of the family. The house and outbuildings where on the exact footprint of the existing buildings and integrate with the original site characteristics and levels. The south side of the dwelling has large window openings providing, light, passive solar gain and a view of the countryside. The house is designed to be energy efficient with super insulated walls, floor and roof. Solar panels are installed to the roof for water heating as a renewable energy source.
