PMC Architects Seminar, 18 September 2008
With fuel prices rising by over 50% in the last few years, and set to rise further, the impact of burning fossil fuels has become a major concern and a new approach to the design of houses is needed.
The ‘zero carbon’ house has become a reality, with the idea of eliminating all heating costs providing an attractive alternative to a conventional home. The government target deadline of 2016 for all new houses to be ‘carbon neutral’ is now only eight years away. The design of ‘Eco homes’ has proved popular with the public who see both the environmental benefits and low running costs as a motivation to invest. To encourage investment the government has agreed that all ‘zero carbon homes’ built up until 2012 will be exempt from stamp duty.
We are running an information seminar explaining why and how to design thermally efficient homes. During the seminar, the design principles behind ‘Eco-friendly living’ are explained by architect Paul McAlister and David Maxwell of Tyrone Timberframes explains ‘their house that requires no central heating system’
Also the impact of the new Energy performance certificates on house value is explained by Estate agent Michael Hannath.
Subjects covered:-
- Eco-friendly housing as an innovative way to meet housing needs.
- Designing a new home with no central heating costs
- Information on Energy Performance Certificates
