Criteria: St Columb’s Park in Derry ~ Londonderry is a 70 acre park located on the Limavady Road and gets its name from the city's patron saint - St Columba. The park boasts an 18th century Manor House - St Columb's Park House and a Walled Garden. Derry City Council is realising a master plan to create a suitable formal entrance to the park with a new gate lodge. The gate lodge is designed in a period style to complement the existing St Columb's House located nearby.

The new gate lodge will be utilized as an administration building for the adjacent Acorn Farm major redevelopment. The gate lodge has the unique distinction of being constructed to Ultra-Low Energy Passive house standards.

The aesthetics of the traditional exterior of the building creates a juxtaposition to the sustainable performance of the building in terms of its 21st century energy efficiency and services. It is the intention that additional Photovoltaic panels will be added to the site allowing the new gate lodge to become a Net Zero Operation Carbon building requiring no operational energy for its Heating, lighting and general appliances.
