Orritor Housing, Cookstown, Co Tyrone

Location: Co. Tyrone

No. of units: 35

Criteria: The planning service had put restrictions for this housing scheme to a maximum of five houses per cluster as a way of controlling the urban form of this development. In this case, the clusters or ‘Clachans’ of houses are reminiscent of the traditional farmhouse clusters of rural Ireland. A managed planting band between the clusters ensures that each is private to one another. This creates a new scale of development as the clusters of houses and landscape mature over a period of time.
