PHAI - Supporting Action on Climate Change through the built environment

Northern Ireland’s strategy for tackling fuel poverty for both retrofit and new build housing appears to be absent. Northern Ireland has the worst building regulations in the UK and Ireland, in terms of energy efficiency targets. The PHAI has brought together a unique group of experts from across the UK and Ireland to discuss this issue along with the latest research and development in this field.

Clare will explore the connection between energy efficiency, fuel poverty and how a solution creates sustainable communities.

Recent research supported by Invest NI indicates the construction of Ultra-Low energy houses has huge benefits to the local economy whilst eliminating fuel poverty for owners or tenants. These ‘Passive Houses’ are now able to be built at a very modest additional cost with a myriad of benefits.
