Crawfordsburn Diary Entry No.10 - Ground Floor Construction

In order for the building to perform as efficiently as possible, material choice throughout has been extremely important. As we progress through the dwelling build we will discuss in depth each of the materials we are using and the reasons why. You have already seen the Foamglas® Perinsul in the previous diary entry, now we’re moving on to the ground floor construction. The main material utilised for the foundations, sub floor construction and screed is concrete. The insulation used between the sub floor and screed is rigid polystyrene; in this case 200mm of Springvale Platinum Floorshield is applied.

Springvale Platinum Floorshield is a rigid insulation panel manufactured from lightweight closed cell Neopor® grade EPS polystyrene block. The Floorshield is available two sizes, either 2400x1200mm sheets or 1200x600mm sheets. The floor shield has a thermal conductivity (K value) = 0.033W/mK.

The next step on site was the laying of the wall plate and screed.  The laying of the wall plate was by the timber frame company SIPFIT.  SIPFIT sent a team of fitters out to complete the installation which allowed Kevin and his team to lay the floor screed. The management of time on site has been successful to date, we have not experienced any delays or setbacks.
