McNeice House wins Ulster Tatler Interiors house of the Year - November 2019

Georgian Grandeur

Set in the idyllic countryside of Co. Armagh this beautifully designed Georgian period home owned by Fearghal and Lisa McNeice and designed by Paul McAlister Architects is this year’s winner of the coveted Ulster Tatler house of the year award.

This property has been carefully thought out in every aspect even with its large size each room still feels cosy, the large Georgian windows filling each room with plenty of sunlight. Each room in this home is warm and inviting and the kitchen is no exception. They say the kitchen is the heart of every home and that is certainly the case with this build.

The kitchen is a Traditional design hand-painted cream with a large island and solid oak top that runs the length of the kitchen. To cook an AGA range finishes the look gives the heat this large room needs. This impressive entertainment space leads through to the sunroom that overlooks the orchard. A tranquil space to sit and relax on a Sunday morning with a newspaper.

Fearghal and Lisa’s attention to detail throughout the property working closely with Paul McAlister architects every step of the way is something to be admired with many bespoke pieces having to be manufactured to fit the curved walls within the property such as curved solid oak doors and bespoke fireplaces to compliment.

The walls were made as thick as an original Georgian home to allow for the recess around the window bays to try and keep it as original to the period as possible. The entrance hall boasts an impressive floating spiral staircase and bespoke family mosaic as the centre focus in black and white marble floor tiles. When looking up a centrepiece is a domed ceiling which mirrors the mosaic and is complemented by an impressive 14 candle crystal chandelier.

There is a seamless flow to this property feeling bright and airy throughout as a Georgian home should feel with the parquet flooring connecting each room and of course with underfloor heating to add a modern touch. No Georgian home would be complete without the defining roll-top bath overlooking the orchard a bathroom haven to soak in after a hard week at the office.

Every bedroom is bright and airy with pastel shades throughout complimented with Louis XV bedroom furniture. Every room in the house takes in a different view of the beautifully designed gardens around the home. The Informal layout of the garden offers peace and simplicity adding to the Georgian ambience perfect for their little Frenchie to enjoy!
